How to prepare for a photo shoot...

I'm always asked "How do I prepare for my photo shoot?"

My answer is always, "Don't prepare, just have fun and be yourself".

What about all the other photographers who send you the little well-organized list of to-dos and don't dos?

Well, that's not how I roll. I'm not going to tell you what to wear, how to smile, how to pose, how your arms will look less fat, how to whiten your teeth...I just don't believe any of that "prepares" you for a photo shoot. Honestly, these lists just teach you how to not look like you for your photos. They teach you how to be nervous and worried, and all of that shows in the photos.

If you want inspiration for outfit ideas, I highly recommend Pinterest, it has a lot of good ideas to glean from.

I personally like the look of natural fibers and organic lighting for photos, but the images I produce are not only about what I like to see. They are about who you are, and what you like to see! I'm not photographing the cute dress, I'm photographing the personality and emotions of her wearing the dress.

I love how each family brings their own light and style, and that's what I encourage. Be you! That's what prepares you the most. Focus on you and who you are, so that your images capture that!

~Blessings~
